My Work

As an accomplished senior-level communications specialist, I have developed and implemented public relations and marketing communications strategies that have supported key business objectives. Through my experiences, I have led media initiatives reaching millions of impressions and managed more than $500,000 in annual budgets.

Results

Web Content: I have extensive experience in WordPress (and other platforms) for web content management. For Beacon College, I led the website redesign from RFP to implementation and currently manage the website content and updates. Through a comprehensive content review, I reduced digital sprawl from 350+ pages to 119. A major redesign goal was to enhance accessibility by meeting the WCAG guidelines. Average mobile time on site has increased by 69% and average time on desktop site has increased by 46%. In August, I was recognized with an FPRA Image Award for this redesign effort.

Community Relations Campaign: Through my strategic communications plan, I led the efforts in the Beacon College Salon Speaker Series growth. The Speaker Series attendance grew from 200 people per event to 358 (79% increase) due to dedicated email and social media communications. In addition to the attendance growth, donations increased from $6,840 to more than $42,824 (526% increase). Check out the FPRA Image Award winning entry case study for full details.

Media Relations: Developing targeted media lists is a critical component for successful media relations. Through building distribution lists with specific identified journalists, I have increased Beacon College’s news release email open rate to 35.4% with a 2.9% click to open rate. Prior to my time at Beacon, media relations has been one of the areas of public relations I enjoy the most. From numerous full-length articles in trade magazines to national media coverage, working with journalists to tell the story is not only a skill but also a strategic communication component. Additionally, I have served on emergency preparedness teams at Beacon College and The University of Alabama.

Email Marketing: As the digital communications manager for Beacon College, I oversee email marketing for the Office of Communications and the Advancement Division. For the last 12 months, Beacon’s communications and advancement emails statistics include a 51% open rate and 3% click rate (both much higher than industry averages).

Social Media: With social media platforms updating (frustrating) and changing metrics constantly, it makes it difficult to compare apples to apples. For the main Beacon College Instagram page, I’ve been able to grow the audience by 59% in two years. Beacon’s other social platforms have also seen growth, although not as much as on IG. Additionally, I have overseen the private FB group for parents, and through dedicated my engagement, have more than doubled the audience. Although I am not a SMM expert, if I were to continue in this role I would pursue additional training to better engage with audiences.
